The future of global aviation officially took flight early Wednesday morning as Saudi Arabia’s new premium national carrier, Riyadh Air, completed its highly anticipated inaugural commercial flight. Flight RX401 departed King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh at 2:35 AM local time, landing smoothly at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) at 7:30 AM BST.

The historic flight marks the dawn of a new era for international travel, positioning the Public Investment Fund (PIF)-backed airline as a massive disruptor to traditional long-haul transit.

The launch occurred ahead of its original July 1 schedule—a timeline acceleration made possible by the early factory delivery of the airline’s brand-new, cutting-edge Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
