In a significant boost to regional aviation corridors, a new nonstop flight route connecting Ahmedabad directly to Colombo has officially been launched, bypassing the need for exhausting multi-stop layovers.
Sri Lankan private carrier FitsAir inaugurated the flight operations from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) in Ahmedabad to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo. Operating three times a week using Airbus narrow-body aircraft, the direct service effectively condenses total flight transit time down to a brisk 3 hours and 40 minutes.
Prior to this launch, travelers journeying between Gujarat and Sri Lanka were forced onto indirect paths through domestic transit hubs, extending a simple short-haul getaway into an all-day travel ordeal.
The strategic route expansion is part of a high-value commercial consortium. FitsAir rolled out the nonstop connection in direct alignment with premium hospitality brands, including Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, Walkers Tours, and the newly established City of Dreams Sri Lanka.
According to executive statements tracked by the Travel Trade Journal, the flight timings are structured specifically to optimize holiday stays. Outbound morning flights allow Indian leisure travelers and families to land in Colombo before noon, unlocking immediate resort check-ins and sightseeing capabilities.
A major anchor destination driving this commercial route is the newly unveiled City of Dreams Sri Lanka—celebrated as South Asia’s very first massive integrated entertainment and luxury resort development. Industry operators anticipate the direct corridor will spark a substantial surge in high-tier destination weddings, luxury weekend escapes, and wellness travel coming out of Gujarat's affluent corporate circles.

Beyond luxury entertainment, the non-stop link serves an essential role in bolstering bilateral commercial ecosystems.
